about me

Hi, my name is Yana, and I’m 21 years old. I’m half Russian and half Turkish, but I grew up in a completely different place – Kyrgyzstan (Central Asia), so when I’m saying that I’m going back home, I usually mean Bishkek (the capital of Kyrgyzstan). My background has shaped my personality in many ways, even though I can’t completely relate myself to any of these places, because the culture of these countries is very different, and I took a little bit of everything.

I’m a second-year student in the Digital Media and Communication course. I’m a level 5 student, but being a Westminster student is a completely new experience for me, as I previously studied at Istituto Marangoni in the Fashion Business and Digital Media and Communication pathway last year. I transferred because my previous university completely lacked discipline and any kind of organization, and after the research, I chose the University of Westminster because it provides diverse academic and social opportunities, which I’m really happy about so far.

Since my childhood, my parents have been telling me that I would study in England, and this is exactly what happened. I’m very grateful to them for this opportunity, as London truly offers great opportunities for both academic and personal development. My first year here was quite challenging for me, as it took a long time to adapt, but after I got used to it, life took on a new meaning, and now I’m in love with that city. I love the fact that in London, you literally can find everything, and you have a lot of options for spending your leisure time. You can join any type of community since there is a huge number and variety of them, and you will never get bored because here you can find activities you never even thought about.
