A little bit about me

Hey everyone, my name is Mariana, I’m 19, and I am originally from Ukraine, although I grew up in Spain after moving there when I was a kid. It is now my 4th year of living in the UK, so I’ve experienced three pretty different cultures and ways of life. I believe growing up between different countries has made me really open minded and interested in how different people see the world. I study digital media, public relations and advertising, I think that this course really reflects my interests and maybe even says a little bit about me.

I’d describe myself as a very open and extroverted person. I like meeting new people, and being around people with different personalities. I’m also someone who likes to actually go out and experience things rather than just hear about them. I love going to different places with my friends, especially when there’s good music, good energy and something going on. Whether it’s a night out, an event, a trip somewhere new or just finding a place to hang out, I’m usually down. I like spontaneous plans and I’m definitely not against saying “yes” before I’ve even thought about the details.

At the same time, I have interests that go beyond going out. I’m genuinely interested in politics and current affairs, especially how politicians communicate with the public and how social media has changed political conversations. Growing up in different countries and constantly being around people from all over the world has probably contributed to this. In the future, I would like to continue my education in the field of political communications, as I’m interested in the connection between politics, media and the way information reaches people.

Outside of that, I enjoy travelling, going to the gym, taking photos, and trying new foods. I like having a balance between doing something productive and just enjoying myself. As I said I’m 19, so obviously I want to take my future seriously, but I also want to enjoy being young and make some good memories along the way. I’m here to learn, meet new people, and hopefully experience as much as possible. Being in different places has already taught me that some of the best opportunities come from being open to change.
