Sometimes I think that probably my social media knows me better than myself. Sometimes I don’t even know what I want to watch, but social media always manages to push me the things that I’m most likely to watch ahead of time.
Probably in the system’s understand, I am like that, that is system based my shear, like, or watch time in different type of video or post. But in reality, I am not that cheerful. I don’t like seeing strange things in reality at all, and I prefer cats over dogs.
However, on the internet, I do often watch such… strange things and share them with my friends. At this times, the concept of “front stage” and “back stage” needs to be mentioned. I hope my friends think I am easy to be more easy to have communication friendly,and cheerful, so I “perform” a very cheerful person in the front stage.
So in the system’s understand, I am just like this person, cheerful, friendly and always find for strange things. This is my “identity” in the system.
Some body will ask me “is that real you?” or “why you don’t be your self?” Actually, that is me or, that’s part of myself, I can be every identity (or personality) for my friend, and I’m happy to do that.
Other people probably will do the same, change different “identity” to face different people, social media or every corner in digital world, system using people’s interest to give people a label to build your identity.
The system build my identity from my choose like my clicks, my watch time, my shares. But identity is also built from the mind by what I choose to perform and for who. The label is real but It’s just a part of me. Maybe that space between the label and the reality is where I actually live.
